Refurbished laptops and desktop computers
Ex-corporate machines, stripped, cleaned, re-pasted and rebuilt with a fresh SSD and a clean licensed install. Burn-in tested, battery health written on the invoice rather than guessed at.
What "refurbished" means here
The word gets used to cover everything from a genuine rebuild to a wipe and a wipe-down. What we do to each machine, in order:
- Stripped and cleaned. Covers off, fans and heatsinks cleared of dust, old thermal paste removed and fresh paste applied. A laptop that throttles on day one was never cleaned properly.
- Fresh SSD. The single biggest difference between an old machine that feels old and one that feels new. The original drive does not come with the machine — your data is never on someone else's old disk, and theirs is never on yours.
- Clean licensed install. Operating system installed from scratch, activated, drivers current. No previous owner's domain policies, no leftover software, no surprises.
- Burn-in tested. The machine runs under sustained load before it is sold. The failures worth catching — thermal, RAM, storage, power — almost all show up under load and almost never in a two-minute power-on test.
- Battery health measured and recorded on the invoice as a figure, not a description.
Why ex-corporate machines
Business-grade laptops are built to a different standard from consumer models at the same second-hand price: metal chassis rather than flexing plastic, keyboards rated for far more keystrokes, serviceable parts, and firmware management features that consumer lines do not have.
They come off corporate lease cycles in volume, which is also why they can be matched. If you need eight identical machines for a department, ex-corporate stock is the only realistic way to get eight of the same model, same specification, same keyboard layout — which matters more than people expect when you are supporting them.
Parts availability is better too. A business model that shipped in the hundreds of thousands still has keyboards, batteries and screens available years later.
Kitting out a team
For fleet orders we standardise: same model, same image, same specification, all labelled and numbered before delivery. If you want the machines joined to a domain, configured with your software, or set up with specific user accounts, that is done here before they arrive rather than one at a time on your desk.
We also take old units in part exchange. Machines that still have life get refurbished; machines that do not get stripped for serviceable parts. Either way the data-bearing drives are removed.
If you are replacing machines one at a time as they fail, that works too — the practical advantage of refurbished stock is that a replacement can usually be in your hands the same week rather than on a six-week lead time.
What you get at the end
- The machine, tested, with a fresh SSD and a clean licensed operating system
- Battery health stated as a percentage on the invoice
- Warranty, stated in writing on the invoice
- Data migration from the old machine, if you want it
- The old unit taken away, with its drive removed
Common questions
What warranty comes with a refurbished machine?
Every unit carries a warranty, and the term is written on the invoice rather than described verbally. Ask us for the current term when you enquire — it is stated plainly before you buy, not after.
Is the Windows installation licensed?
Yes. Every machine is supplied with a clean, activated, licensed operating system installed from scratch. We do not ship machines carrying a previous owner's image or an unactivated install.
How do I know the battery is not worn out?
Because we measure it and print the figure on your invoice. A refurbished laptop sold without a stated battery figure is being sold on hope.
Can you supply twenty identical machines?
Usually, yes — matching a batch is one of the main advantages of ex-corporate stock. Tell us the quantity and specification you need and we will tell you what can be matched and how quickly.
What happens to my old computers?
We take them in part exchange. Serviceable machines are refurbished, the rest are stripped for parts. Data-bearing drives are removed in either case.
